Children's Marathon Challenge 2013

The second Children's Marathon Challenge became the curtain raiser to the start of the Cadbury Dunedin Half Marathon and Walk. After heavy overnight rain, 506 children from 28 schools participated in completing the final 2.195 kms of their marathon. Prior to the event children had accumulated 40 kms over a six week period around school circuits.

It was nice to welcome children from outside Dunedin schools - Warrington, Waikouaiti, Flagswamp, Palmerston and East Otago High School. For the second yearin a row St Brigid's School had the highest number of registered runners.

The childen ran around the perimeter of Logan Park finishing inside the Forsyth Barr Stadium. The large video screens were operating for the children and their supporter to watch as the runners completed their runs.

Apples supplied by Veggie Boys were given to all the children who took part. Mizuno provided running shoes as spot prizes to the following schools - East Taieri, St Brigids, Sawyers Bat, Warrington, Palmerston, Pine Hill, Anderson's Bay, St Hildas, Abbotsford and Mornington.

We are fortunate to have other sponsors Uptown Art, Ricoh, Harraways and Southern Community Laboratories who helped in a variety of ways.
