Course Details

Full Marathon

The Marathon course is point to point, the first 32km is mainly flat. The remaining 10km has slight undulations with a sharp brief rise at 39km, (Roseneath). Full Marathon runners will share the course with Half Marathon competitors from the 29km mark (Kitchener Street).

Details:

Race starts at Harington Point at 8.00am and follows Harington Point Rd and Portobello Rd all the way to the city's foreshore. The route crosses the Andersons Bay inlet then onto Portsmouth Drive, turns right into Kitchener St, proceeds into Birch St, right into Ward St, then right into Fryatt St, left into Wickliffe St, over the Ward St overbridge, turn right onto Anzac Ave then onto the Port Chalmers highway (SH88). Proceed onto the Cycleway/Walkway and on reaching Port Chalmers turn right over the railway crossing, then right into Albertson Avenu, into Watson Park and the Finish.

Half Marathon Run and Recreational Walk     

The Half Marathon start will be in the carpark outside the East Stand of the Forsyth Barr Stadium. The course will take in the Botanical Gardens, University of Otago, Dunedin Railway Station and ChineseGardens, and will join the Full Marathon course at the Harbour Basin, pass the Forsyth Barr Stadium, onto the Walkway / Cycleway, then SH 88 to Port Chalmers and the Finish at Watson Park.

From the start left into Union St, right into Butts Rd, left into Logan Park Drive, right into Union St, right and around front of University Registry, left into Leith St Central, cross Dundas St into Gardens via Gore Place. Left across bridge by Gardens Café, then left again past Sunken Garden and through the Gardens carpark. Left into Cumberland St, left into Brook St, right into Leith St North, cross Dundas St into Montague St then left into Castle St extension. South through University, left past the Richardson Building, right past the Burns Building. Go through carpark, across Albany St, south down Leith St South. Turn right into St Andrew St, left into Castle St, left into Anzac Ave, right into Railway Station carpark, south past Queens Gardens, left over Cumberland St overbridge, down Walkway, onto the Harbour Basin where the course joins the Full Marathon course. Proceed right into Fryatt St, left into Wickliffe St, right over the overbridge and right into SH88, right into Neptune St, left into Magnet St then onto the Walkway / Cycleway back onto SH88 to Port Chalmers, right into Albertson Ave and the Finish at Watson Park.

Special Drinks

Special Drinks for Full Marathon only should be clearly labeled with your Race Number and the Drink Station you wish to collect from. These can be placed in the containers during Race Pack pick up at the Forsyth Barr Stadium. These will be placed on the first table at each Drink Station to be uplifted by the Marathon runner.

Drink Stations

Eight Drink Station at 5km intervals will serve water. A Drink Station will be at the Finish at Watson Park.

Toilets / Showers

Toilets will be available at the start of both events and other locations on the course (refer to Full Course Map).  Showers and changing facilities will be available from the Harbour Rugby Clubrooms at Watson Park.
