Course Details 2016

Full Marathon   Start 8.00am

The Marathon course is point to point, the first 32km is mainly flat. The remaining 10km has slight undulations with a sharp brief rise at 39km, (Roseneath). Full Marathon runners will share the course with Half Marathon competitors from the 29km mark (Kitchener Street).

Details:

Race starts at Harington Point at 8.00am and follows Harington Point Rd and Portobello Rd all the way to the city's foreshore. The route crosses the Andersons Bay inlet then onto Portsmouth Drive, turns right into Kitchener St, proceeds into Birch St, right into Ward St, then right into Fryatt St, left into Wickliffe St, over the Ward St overbridge, turn right onto Anzac Ave then onto the Port Chalmers highway (SH88). Proceed onto the Cycleway/Walkway and on reaching Port Chalmers turn right over the railway crossing, then right into Albertson Avenu, into Watson Park and the Finish.

 Half Marathon Run Start  9.30am      Recreational Walk   Start   9.33am     

The Half Marathon start will be in Logan Park Drive down from the Tennis Courts at 9.30am. The course will take in the Botanical Gardens, University of Otago, Dunedin Railway Station and Chinese Gardens, and will join the Full Marathon course at the Harbour Basin, pass the Forsyth Barr Stadium, onto the Walkway / Cycleway, then SH 88 to Port Chalmers and the Finish at Watson Park.

Half Marathon Run and Recreational Walk Start Logan Park Dr, 100m south of Sargood Centre

Head south down Logan Park Dr, left into Union St East, left into Butts Rd, continue on right side of Dundas St, right into Gore Pl, continue on Gardens track, left over bridge by duck pond, then right, left at Peter Pan statue, left by main gates, through Rose garden, exit gardens over Castle St bridge,left into Brooke St, stay on left side, cross Dundas St then right, left into Cumberland St, left into Albany St, right into Leith St, stay on right side, right into St Andrew St, left into Castle St, stay left, past station, Toihu and Chinese Gardens, up ramp to overbridge, down walkway and across Birch St, across harbour basin walkway, right into Fryat St, stay right, left into Wickliffe St, right into cycleway,left into Parry St, out and back then left into Minerva St, right into  Anzac Av, follow footpath around Stadium, right into Stadium car park, onto cycleway beneath SH88, along left side of Magnet St, onto cycleway, at St Leonards right onto right side of SH88, right into Wickliffe Tce, right into Albertson Ave, right into Watson Park, finish.

 QUARTER - MARATHON Run and Walk Start at 9.15am

Quarter Marathon Run and Walk

Start Logan Park Dr, 100m south of Sargood Centre

Head south down Logan Park Dr, left into Union St East, right into Stadium car park, onto cycleway beneath SH88, along left side of Magnet St, onto cycleway, at St Leonards right onto right side of SH88, right into Wickliffe Tce, right into Albertson Ave, right into Watson Park, finish.

Special Drinks

Special Drinks for Full Marathon only should be clearly labeled with your Race Number and the Drink Station you wish to collect from. These can be placed in the containers during Race Pack pick up at the Sargood Center. These will be placed on the first table at each Drink Station to be uplifted by the Marathon runner.

Drink Stations

Eight Drink Station at 5km intervals will serve water. A Drink Station will be at the Finish at Watson Park.

Toilets / Showers

Toilets will be available at the start of both events and other locations on the course (refer to Full Course Map).  Showers and changing facilities will be available from the Harbour Rugby Clubrooms at Watson Park.
