Full Marathon
The Full Marathon saw 230 line up at Harington Point, among them
to run his 100th was Norman Chan, also, Glen Sutton who had already
ran a marathon from the finish at Port Chalmers, was a matter of
turning around and running marathon number two for the day back to
Port Chalmers. The weather was cool and slightly cloudy, but as the
day went on it became ideal for running 42.195km. Winner of the
Cadbury Moro Marathon was Jason Palmer in a time
of 2hr:39min:47sec, Mel Aitken won the Women's
section in 3hr:12min:49sec. In the 50+ Men's section Mark
Wareing won in a time of 2hr:55min:59sec and Wendy
Falloon finished in 3hr:28min:39sec in the Women's
section.
Half Marathon
A field of 1,293 Half Marathon runners faced the starter outside
the Forsyth Barr Stadium, a last minute change to
the "start line" was brought about by us being unable to use the
extended Walkway to St Leonards. It was Peter
Meffan from the Caversham Harriers and Athletic Club first
across the line in 1hr:09min:50sec. Shireen
Crumpton took out the Women's section in a time of
1hr:22min:25sec.
Recreational Walk
Always a popular event and this year there were 514 entries
in the Half Marathon Recreational Walk. Course record holder
Rozie Robinson was to lead the field away and was
never challenged over the 21.1km. Rozie finished in a time of
2hr:00min:15sec in the Open Women's section with Caversham's
Rodger Leslie taking the Open Men's section and
second overall in a time of 2hr:05min:08sec.
